Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
