Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on recently

An individual who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The accused was held in detention before a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.

She stated Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities again.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
