The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
